We believe that the time is ripe for everyday people to take direct action against rape in our society, and that Steubenville provides a key opportunity to jump-start this resurgence.
We are inspired by the current anti-rape movements in India, and hope to see people of all genders in the United States participating in the Steubenville effort.
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
1. Leave a supportive comment on this blog. It can be anything from your name, to a story about why you support this effort.
2. Share the letter with others and encourage them to comment. Steubenville High should know that we are watching, hoping they will do the right thing.
3. If the 3 demands aren’t met by February 12, come to Steubenville with us to take action. Sometimes cyberactivism is not enough. If need be, we are prepared to mobilize to Steubenville to support and escalate the efforts already underway by local anti-rape demonstrators. Try to take the weekend off, of February 15th, 16th, and 17th. This could be a historic event in the long fight against rape, and we need you to be a part of it.
4. Organize a solidarity event where you live. We can’t all come to Steubenville, but we can take up the spirit of this effort and increase the consequences for rape in our own towns. Check out the Creative Interventions Toolkit for some suggestions about how to intervene in situations of intimate violence. Host an event to share strategies and help increase visibility around this aspect of rape prevention and response.
